Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineers study the human body from an engineering perspective and create high-tech solutions for improving human health. The Biomedical Engineer’s unique combination of engineering fundamentals and human physiology is highly sought after by today’s medical device manufacturers and medical research institutions. In fact, Forbes’ Magazine recently named Biomedical Engineering the #1 most valuable college major (May 2012). The CBU Biomedical Engineering program prepares graduates for the design and testing biomedical products, such as implantables, wearables, or medical equipment. The program also allows the student to use their engineering fundamentals to intimately explore the great complexities of the human body and admire the intricate work of God, our Creator and Savior.

Biomedical Engineering graduates find themselves with a variety of career options. They are well-suited for the design and development of implantables, such as artificial joints or stents, wearables, such as glucose monitors or artificial limbs, and health care equipment, such as a medical imaging systems or surgical consoles. Many select to join cutting-edge research programs where they use their knowledge of science and engineering to expand our understanding of human conditions and develop novel methods to treat disease and disabilities.

Note: Per ABET’s policy, ABET accreditation can be obtained about 16 months after the first graduates and would be retroactive to those first graduates.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation from this program, the students will be able to:
  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. Function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. Understand professional and ethical responsibility
  7. Communicate effectively
  8. Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. Demonstrate a knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice 
  12. Articulate a Christian worldview on personal, professional, technical, and societal issues
  13. Understand the basic concepts in leadership
