Graduate Programs in Nursing

The purpose of the graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree in nursing is to provide curriculum guiding the learner with the intention of broadening their theoretical knowledge base in preparation for an advanced practice role in leadership or education and/or to pursue future doctoral study.  The nurse at the master’s level develops, tests, and evaluates concepts in nursing critically examining ideas, research and theories in relation to health issues and clinical practice from a nurse leader perspective.

This master’s program provides experience in the area of advanced practice adult health and in two specific areas of role concentration: teaching nursing and administering nursing services.  All students will be provided the opportunity to learn the theoretical base of nursing science, with special opportunities provided with the humanbecoming school of thought.  Consistent with the role concentration of advanced nursing practice with adults, students shall participate in practicum experiences with specially selected individuals/families/communities. 

Students who select teaching as their area of role concentration will be provided the opportunity of practicum experiences utilizing the theoretical base of the teaching-learning process from a nursing theoretical perspective. 

Students who select administering of nursing services as their area of role concentration will be provided the opportunity to learn the theoretical base of the administrative process from a nursing theoretical perspective.  Practicum experiences for these students will be situated in various health care settings. 

Completion of the core courses and a concentration will equip the student to pursue the role of advanced practice nurse, and assume a leadership or teaching role. The student will also be eligible for California certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse adult-health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).

Students will broaden their nursing theoretical, practice, and research knowledge within an ever-changing healthcare system.

Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing 

Designed for candidates who hold a baccalaureate nursing degree in a non-nursing field and who seek to transition professionally into the field of nursing, CBU’s Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing (EL MSN) offers applicants the opportunity to apply for an entry-level master’s program then, as licensed RNs, complete post-licensure coursework to earn a Master of Science in Nursing as well as complete requirements to become a Clinical Nursing Specialist.
